This stone forms part of lapis lazuli. It is seldom found as individual crystals inter grown with another minerals. It has perfect cleavage so cutting is difficult. It is faceted for collectors.

Found in volcanic rocks as small rounded grains. Morocco and ancient volcanoes of Germany are the main sources. Brilliant is the available cut when it is faceted.
