These are most highly prized gemstones except Pearl, and have a particular cut. There are two ways of cutting stones.

1. Cabochon Stones
2. Faceted Stones

Producing a doomed, polished surface, as a simple style for stones is called cabochon cut. Star Sapphires and Cat’s Eyes are the two examples for this cut.

Gemstones are cut to give them a flat surfaces to enhance their beauty, is called faceting. These facets are absorbed and reflect light rays to give the gemstone the best lustre.
